QUA'AN-PAN LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL CHAIRMAN RECEIVES CENTRE FOR HUMANITARIAN DIALOGUE, ASSURES COMMITMENT TO PEACEBUILDING


The Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) is a private diplomacy organization that works to prevent and resolve armed conflicts worldwide through mediation and discreet diplomacy.


Speaking during the visit, the team leader, Dr. Amed Yassin, stated that the Centre for HD intervenes in communities experiencing conflict or disagreement, particularly border issues. He noted that most local governments in Southern Plateau are grappling with border disputes.


He also mentioned that the Centre for HD implemented the PEACE CORE PROJECT to educate people on conflict resolution through dialogue.


Also speaking, the PEACE CORE PROJECT officer, Mr. Chrysantus, said the project is funded by the German Government to promote peace and stability in Plateau State. He highlighted that Plateau State faces numerous challenges, including farmer-herder conflicts, mining issues, kidnapping, and cross-border conflicts, among others.


He noted that since 2021, Plateau State has experienced interventions from several national and international NGOs, which have established peace structures. However, due to a lack of funding, these structures have become dysfunctional. To address this, they have come up with the project to build capacity by selecting nine representatives from each local government to participate in negotiations and ensure local government representation. The representatives will comprise traditional rulers, youths, CAN, JNI, and others.


In response, the Chairman outlined a roadmap for integrating the PEACE CORE PROJECT into Qua'an-Pan's development agenda, ensuring a cohesive approach to peacebuilding and sustainable development. He pledged to support the representatives from Qua'an-Pan in the PEACE CORE PROJECT to facilitate their effective participation in promoting peace and stability. He further directed that the project be extended to all 20 wards of the local government to ensure comprehensive coverage and impact.


The Chairman commended the Centre for HD's efforts in promoting peace and stability, noting that it aligns with the "The Time Is Now" administration of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, and assured them of his full cooperation in achieving their objectives.
